iHeartRadio Review. Convenient Way to Listen to the Radio

There is no doubt that the music streaming industry is quite competitive. There are numerous service providers that offer top-notch services and plenty of catalogs. iHeartRadio is among them. This freemium app has something for every type of user, and it is an iOS and Android app which means everyone gets to join in on the fun. I have been using it for a while now, and I can honestly say I am impressed.

What iHeartRadio Is

iHeartRadio focuses on live radio streams available for free. Despite having a clunky interface, this App Store and Google Play app for radio has some impressive and useful features. For one, you can see the name of the song being played on each radio station. The app also features a scan icon which, when clicked, searches for similar radio stations for you. This is simply great because it allows you to discover numerous new songs. You can also view an artist’s bio or the lyrics of a song using the app. However, whether you are using the iOS (available on iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch) or Android version of this tool, you are required to sign in with Google credentials, Facebook or create an account to ban or like a song, view your history and listen to certain radio stations. My mark is 9/10.

Interface

iHeartRadio focuses on live radio streams available for free. On the homepage, there is a grid that displays different categories of content such as Comedy, News, Jazz and Sports among others. When you click the panel and the ‘Get Stations’ icon respectively, the app identifies the genres you are interested in. I have been using the Google Android version, and the main part works fine. However, I think it is very old-fashioned and quite unattractive. A visual upgrade would definitely give the app the upper hand against its competitors. I would rate it with 6/10.

Performance and usability

I had an issue with the previous version of this app because it lacked some very important features such as unlimited skips and offline listening capability. However, this is not an issue in the latest version since there are two premium options you can take advantage of. These include iHeartRadio All Access and iHeartRadio Plus. iHeartRadio All Access is $9.99 per month. It allows you to have unlimited access to songs, create unlimited playlists and features offline playback. On the other hand, the iHeartRadio Plus is $4.99 per month, and it allows you to access on-demand playback, get unlimited skips, save songs to your playlists and replay tracks. From the moment I started using it, I have had a trouble-free experience. The radio stations have a crisp sound, and I can assure you will not struggle to get the app to work because it has excellent performance and it is effortless to use. I rate it with 8/10.

Cross-platform use

The app is compatible with iOS (available on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch) and Android. This is 9/10.

The Verdict

iHeartRadio is one of my favorite apps. If you are a fan of curated stations and live radio, I do not doubt that you will enjoy this leading app. It has plenty of features that allow you to create amazing playlists, and it is quite entertaining. In addition, to this, I like the fact that it is constantly updated with new features. Get it free on the App Store or Google Play Store, depending on which device you are using.
