XFINITY TV Go Review – retired yet capable XFINITY product for online TV broadcast

Posted by on November 3, 2017

Being updated in 2017 for the last time, XFINITY TV Go was replaced with XFINITY Stream app available for free on Google Play and App Store. However, there are many users who feel comfortable with the good old XFINITY TV Go and don’t need the extended set of functions and demands in the new versions. If you would like to stick to the previous version just because you like it or because your device doesn’t support Stream app – in this article, we are going to discuss pros and cons of using it.

What XFINITY TV Go is

It is a free app supported by most of the mobile devices. You can make use of this app in case you own a Comcast subscription. No additional fees are required, you can install the app for free from third-party websites, while at Google Play and App Store the product is replaced with the latest version of XFINITY Stream. The score is 8.5/10.

Interface

The first thing you get familiar with after installation is design. XFINITY TV Go product has attractive layout: the background and buttons are created in deep dark colors – black, grey, blue. Perhaps, grey isn’t excellent for its readability, but it looks stylish. There is a sidebar, high-resolution movie broadcast and TV-posters available on the main screen. The buttons in the bottom include Featured, TV Series, Movies, Live, Family/Kids, Networks and Gets. I would rate it with 10/10.

Performance and Usability

If you have something to say about this app and make own review – write me.

The app helps to have your favorite media content at hand anytime. With its help, you can enjoy your favorite movies and TV-shows both online – if you use streaming live TV, and offline – if you prefer watching on demand or your Internet connection leaves a lot to be desired.

There are more than 130 TV channels to choose from, 20+ thousand on-demand programs and about 500 thousand online options. Within the app you can make use of:

  • Search and view history – to see what you previously watched and where you stopped.
  • Bookmarks – add those shows you especially enjoy.
  • Parental control – let your children see what you allow them to see.

To start using XFINITY TV Go, sign in with Comcast account and add your device. After that, you’ll notice three main tabs: Must See, TV and Movies. A good thing that app doesn’t hide channels and programs you haven’t subscribed to. When choosing a show to watch, you can swipe in a preview to see the show episodes.

Video quality in the app depends on the Wi-Fi connection quality and device. On up-to-date mobile phones and tablets you can enjoy your favs in full HD.

However, the range of functions in the XFINITY Stream is expanded. You can check it out. For that, I rate it with 9/10.

Cross-platform use

The most convenient about this app is that you can enjoy your favorite movies, shows and series even if you don’t install the latest XFINITY products officially available for Android and iOS. The worst thing so far is that TV Go is not supported by developers anymore. Android support varies with the device, while iOS support starts from 8.0 and later. This is 9/10.

The Verdict

The app itself provides tons of opportunities from watching TV-shows during your subway time to catching up broadcasts that you missed. As we mentioned previously, you may want to install it if XFINITY Stream takes to much memory and offers functions you don’t use, or your device doesn’t support it. It’s a nice temporary decision that I would recommend.

I’ll test your utility app for its functionality, usability and consistency. I provide manual testing on Android and iOS – the physical devices, and use emulators for other OSes.
